Nerdlets
Sustainability is important to our team. We need to make sure we have a steady flow of bright new energy and fresh ideas into our team through the form of younger team members. Some day, they will be our team’s leaders. With this in mind, we have developed a program for members in training, and we call them Nerdlets.
What are the Nerdlets?
Though FRC is technically only open to high schoolers, we provide mentorship to middle school students interested in joining our team through our Nerdlet program! As a Nerdlet, middle school students get the exciting opportunity to shadow experienced team members and mentors to figure out their interests within the team, and gain valuable experience being on an FRC robotics team!
What can Nerdlets Do?
Though they are not an official member, Nerdlets are given the chance to contribute to team discussions and decision making.Unfortunately they are unable able to join the team for out of state travel to competitions, but we hope that after their experience as Nerdlets, these students will join us as a high school member!
What do we all need to know?
It is also important for members of our team to be aware of the Nerdlet program, and understand that some members of our team may not be in highschool. Please be mindful and respectful of this, keeping words and actions age appropriate. This is our opportunity to mentor these younger students, so let’s make sure they are welcome, feel comfortable asking questions, and get opportunities to get involved.
Additionally, we all play a role in the recruitment of Nerds and Nerdlets alike! If you know a middle school student interested in any aspect of FRC, be it business or engineering, please invite them to join the team!
